Dang shen or Codonopsis pilosula also known as the Poor Man's Ginseng.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine this herb often works as well as American Ginseng (Ren Shen) when the amount is doubled or tribled. (Still cheaper and often as effective). Like Ren Shen (American Ginseng) Dang Shen can build up the Qi and Blood, a excellent substitute but it is still very much inferior to American Ginseng.
Treats deficiency of spleen-qi and lung-qi and deficiency of body fluid and blood. Like American Ginseng, Dang Shen treats the whole body and as a tonic can be taken daily. Especially useful if one is weak and recovering from any physical, medical, or mental disorder. It aids the appetite and helps one to recover quicker.
Use in soups, stews, and kombucha ferments. discard, no not eat the herb - unless you want to.
typical dosage is 1/3 to 1 ounce daily or in soups stews. 1 ounce added to 1 gallon of kombucha tea basic recipe. May also be added directly to Kombucha's Second Ferment. Just shake once or twice with meals, Add to Sparkling Mineral Water, great anytime, all day long.
